How to get other lawyers to link to your blog
Austin DUI lawyer Jamie Spencer got an email from a fellow lawyer asking how Jamie got lawyers to link to his blog posts.
Jamie responded with two main ways:
- Content, Content, Content. Looks like you are already starting to put good content on your blog, so that will help.
- Link out to other people who are writing on similar topics. Basically, to get them to notice that you exist in the first place, the easiest thing to do is to cut and paste from something they wrote (while, of course, acknowledging them and linking back to them), and then comment on what they wrote.
No reason to expand, it's as simple as that.
And when looking for model law bloggers, you could do a lot worse than Jamie. A fellow Texas lawyer who had talked with Jamie about blogging for the marketing of his practice, called him 'the professor.'

Plus, Jamie uses "Blawg". How cool is that.
I am always looking for blogs to link to at Legal Blogwatch. I read dozens of blogs daily, and find that few (with the exception of academic blogs) regularly offer the type of analysis, commentary or opinion that makes for good link bait. Many blogs have gotten a bit dull - and just put up a portion of an article and say "this is interesting...." or announce that a case was released, with no commentary. And if you do post an interesting opinion or commentary, send it to other bloggers and let them know.
