Citizen journalism on rise : New poll

Anyone who believes blogging is on the decline is ignoring the facts.

A February poll from We Media and Zogby Interactive found that 72 percent of adults were dissatisfied with American journalism today. At the same time, 74 percent think ‘citizen journalism,’ a term coined for news reported by bloggers, will play an important role in the future.

A nation of law bloggers acting as law correspondents reporting on niche areas of the law and local is on the horizon. Those lawyers who don’t see it are missing a big opportunity.

This is so true, and it covers all topics, from business to politics. In fact, blogging is the engine behind the current (and apparently growing) political campaign of Ron Paul, for example. It doesn’t make Mr. Paul a front-runner, but blogging is getting his ideas out there in front of people and selling what he has to say. Paul has the added insurance of a highly enthusiastic group of relatively tech-savvy supporters who are devoted to getting his ideas before as many people as possible. It will be interesting to see how this develops for him in the coming months.
