Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent for the health and medical unit at CNN, is hosting the program entitled ‘Danger: Poisoned Food‘ this Saturday and Sunday at 8pm ET.

Last year, more than 350 people got sick or died eating tainted spinach and lettuce. Others got ill after consuming peanut butter contaminated with salmonella. A recent pet food scare has many consumers worried if it could drastically affect human health.

In his latest documentary, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, investigates current threats to the nation’s food supply all the way from the fields and farms to the packaging plants to the grocery store shelves. Gupta also exposes how the U.S. government’s approach to these dangers may be putting Americans at additional risk.

The CNN crew spent 4 to 6 hours in Marler’s Seattle office in addition to interviewing a number of food-poisoning victims he represents. Look forward to watching.

This kind of stuff really creeps me out, and leads me to wonder what, exactly, you can trust in the food market.
For me, the best sort of food safety insurance is to try to get as much stuff as I can locally, from small growers who I know, and to try to grow some stuff myself when the season is right. It doesn’t cover everything, but I feel a little better about what I am eating, at least.
