What’s the real goal of lawyer Internet marketing

FindLaw does a nice job of sharing a few success stories of lawyers using FindLaw’s websites.

Rather than focus on hits, page views and other meaningless stats, the focus is on the lawyer’s aspirations and life outside of the law. Lawyers are depicted outside their offices whether riding a road bike, walking along the ocean or with their family in front of a national landmark.

And that’s what lawyer Internet marketing is all about. It’s not about traffic to your website, it’s not about increased work, and it’s not about having more money.

It’s about what those things bring. Freedom from worrying about the monthly overhead nut you have to crack. Freedom to spend meaningful time with your family and doing those activities we love.

We didn’t go to law school to get page views.

As I’ve heard it, the “nut” you have to “cover” isn’t the kind of nut that you eat (and you would not want to crack the nut).
The saying comes from traveling performers in the 1800s (I think). You had to make the house enough money before it would return your “nut”, which was the piece that held your wagon wheel in place. Basically, you have to perform until you earn back you ability to leave.
    Hope all is well.

    Kevin-
I really like your phrase ‘We didn’t go to law school to get page views.’ I’m happy you made your way over to our clients success stories, and hope that your readers check them out as well.
In my personal interaction with these attorneys, it struck me how Internet marketing was not just a way to find new clients, but it truly changed their life. Some were able to focus on the practice area they always dreamt about specializing in, others were able to pursue hobbies they had lacked the time for.
